ASSEMBLY Magazine Celebrates Golden Anniversary!
by Weber Austin

BENSENVILLE, IL, October 15, 2007--ASSEMBLY magazine, a publication of BNP Media, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this month. To mark the occasion, the magazine has published a special October issue, with articles looking back over the last five decades and peering ahead into the next 50 years of manufacturing.

ASSEMBLY’s Web site (www.assemblymag.com) also contains exclusive material, include a 50-year timeline focusing on significant engineering achievements, business trends and manufacturing milestones. And, the AssemblyBlog includes predictions about the future. ASSEMBLY debuted as Assembly & Fastener Engineering in October 1958. The first issue contained 104 pages. It was a unique time in the history of America and the history of American manufacturing.

“Europe and substantial parts of Asia were still recovering from World War II, and just beginning to lay the foundation for today’s advanced manufacturing behemoth,” says Tom Esposito, publisher of ASSEMBLY. “America was the manufacturing nucleus of the world. “More automobiles, aircraft, appliances, and electrical and electronic products were built here than anywhere,” adds Esposito. “We were in the enviable position of supplying the world with many of these products.”

America’s manufacturers faced the same challenges then as they do today: How do we assemble it faster, better and more economically? ASSEMBLY magazine was launched in October 1958 to answer those very questions for America’s engineers.

“ASSEMBLY has played a vital role in providing superior information for the 50 years leading up to today, and I believe our role will be more critical in the next 50 years,” says Esposito. “We see our role as nothing less than critical to the future of American manufacturers and we intend to meet this challenge head on. We are excited and optimistic about the future of American manufacturing, and we will continue to be right in the middle of it.”

ASSEMBLY publishes 13 print editions annually. To reach manufacturing engineers, design engineers and plant managers around the world, ASSEMBLY continues to expand its content offerings by providing multiple platforms such as webinars, e-newsletters, blogs, ASSEMBLY TV, digital editions and a Chinese print edition.

ASSEMBLY serves readers in a wide variety of industries, including automotive, aerospace, appliance, electronics and medical devices. The magazine covers the market for systems, equipment, tools and materials used by OEMs and contract manufacturers to assemble discrete parts into finished products, including manual and automated production processes.
